DEVOTIONS
Much wisdom is to be found in the elderly, especially our parents. We need to learn from their experiences.

"Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations; ask thy father and he will show thee."

Deuteronomy 32:7 KJV

I WILL LISTEN AND LEARN FROM MY ELDERS.

TESTIMONIALS
"I wanted to let you know how much of a part of my son's success Doyle Baseball has been for my son Vince. From Little League through high school and now college, Vince is a leader both on and off the field. You have not only had a major impact on him, but me as well. For that I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  • Heels are aligned with the measuring tape (yardstick) so that the heel line is at 0 inches. Stretches beyond the heel line are recorded as positive value numbers; stretches short of the heel line are recorded as negative values.
  • Three practice trials are allowed; the fourth reach is held for three seconds while the distance is measured and recorded. Scores are recorded to the nearest half inch.

    Grip Strength:
    Hand-Grip Dynamometer

  • The subject should assume a standing position with head erect, and facing straight forward.
  • Adjust the grip dynamometer so that the middle finger's second knuckle opposes the gripping device at a 90 degree angle. Set forearm at a 45 degree angle and rotate the forearm slightly outward. Squeeze the hand-grip dynamometer quickly and maximally, taking no more than a few seconds to perform each trial. Perform 2 or 3 trials alternately with each hand. Rest 20-60 seconds between each trial. Record the best trial for each hand.

    Leg Power:
    Standing Long Jump

  • Draw a takeoff line on the floor, and place a 10 ft. long tape measure perpendicular to this line.
  • Have the subject stand with feet several inches apart, to the side of the tape measure and toes just behind the takeoff line.
  • The subject should swing their arms backward and bend their knees prior to the jump. To perform the jump the subject should extend their knees and swing their arms forward at the same time.
  • Distance is recorded from the takeoff line to the heel of the foot that touches the floor closest to the takeoff line. 3 trials are allowed, and the best trial, measured to the nearest inch, becomes the final test score.

    Agility:
    Shuttle Run (Option #1)

  • Space requirements: two parallel lines, 30 feet apart, flat surface.
  • Equipment: marking tape, stopwatch, two wooden blocks (2"x2"x4") or similar item (baseballs, ?).
  • Directions: the subject stands behind the starting line and on the signal "Go" runs to the blocks (30' away), picks up one, returns to the starting line, and places the block behind the line; the subject then repeats the process with the second block.
  • Scoring: the score for each subject is the length of time required (to the nearest tenth of a second) to complete the course in the better of two trials (if time permits).

    SEMO (Option #2)

  • Cones are placed squarely in each corner of the free-throw lane or similar flat surface. The student lines up outside the free-throw lane (at A) with the back to the free-throw line. At the signals "Ready," "Go," the student side steps from A to B and passes outside the corner cone; then backpedals from B to D and passes to the inside of the corner cone; then sprints forward from D to A passes outside the corner cone; then backpedals from A to C and passes to the inside of the corner cone; then sprints forward from C to B and passes outside of the corner cone; And finally side steps from B to the finish line at A. The best of 2 trials is recorded as the score.
  • In performing the side step, the crossover step cannot be used.
  • In performing the back pedal, the student must keep their back perpendicular to the imaginary line connecting the corner cones.
  • At least 1 practice trial should be given.

    Throwing Velocity:

  • Peak throwing velocity is measured by the ATEC Sport Performance Radar Gun (model SM00101) or comparable device.

  • Subjects are permitted a complete warm-up period prior to making five maximum throws.
  • All subjects are required to throw on flat ground from the traditional pitcher's stretch position. Unlimited leg lift and stride are allowed but no pre-steps are permitted.
  • Three best efforts are recorded in MPH and averaged.

    Bat Speed:

  • Bat speed is measured with an ATEC Sport Performance Radar Gun (model SM00101) or comparable device.

  • Each subject is permitted a warm-up and then takes five maximum swings at a regulation baseball placed on a batting tee.
  • The subject's normal game bat should be used.
  • Subjects should hit five line drives into a net (ground balls should not be recorded).
  • Ball speed should be recorded by the radar gun in MPH and the best three efforts should be averaged.
